Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These Terms are an agreement between you and PearlHook LLC, a New York limited liability company ("PearlHook," "we," "us"). They cover the PearlHook browser extension, the website pearlhook.com and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account, starting a trial or buying a plan, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. Who can use PearlHook

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account and buy a plan. Accounts are for individual personal study.

3. What PearlHook is

PearlHook is a study aid. After you answer a question in a question bank you subscribe to, PearlHook reads the explanation on your screen and uses AI to create a short study card (key takeaway, a cue to recognize the pattern, a memory hook and, for missed questions, why your pick was wrong). It also offers notes, review, export and matching drills.

• Not medical advice. Study cards are AI-generated summaries for exam preparation. They can be incomplete or wrong. Always check them against the original explanation and trusted sources. Never use them to diagnose or treat patients.
• Not affiliated with question banks. PearlHook is independent and is not endorsed by TrueLearn, AMBOSS, UWorld or any other question bank. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners. You need your own valid subscription to any question bank you use.
• Nothing is sent before you answer. PearlHook only reads a question page after it has been answered.

4. Your account

• You sign in with your email and a one-time code. Keep access to your email secure; you're responsible for activity on your account.
• Each account can be used on up to 2 computers at a time. You can sign a computer out from the account panel.
• Accounts are personal. Don't share your account or let others use it. One free trial per person, per email and per payment card.

5. Plans, trial and payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are in US dollars, plus any sales tax required where you live.

5.1 Free trial. Both monthly plans start with a 7-day free trial. A payment card is required to start it. If you cancel before the trial ends (Account → Manage billing), you are not charged. If you don't cancel, the first payment is charged when the trial ends. Trials are limited to one per person, email address and payment card; we may cancel a trial that reuses a card or account.

5.2 12-month plan. By choosing the 12-month plan and checking "I agree to 12 monthly payments of $25," you agree to pay $25 per month for 12 consecutive months, starting with the first charge after your trial (or at purchase if no trial applies). You may cancel at no cost during the free trial. After the first payment, the 12-month plan cannot be cancelled before the 12 payments are complete, though you can update your payment card and download receipts at any time. The plan ends automatically after the 12th payment; nothing renews. We remind you by email before it ends, and you may restart at the prices offered then.

5.3 Monthly, cancel anytime. This plan renews every month until you cancel. Cancel anytime in Manage billing; you keep access until the end of the month you already paid for.

5.4 9-month pass. The pass is a one-time payment for 9 months of access and never renews automatically. If you buy it during a trial or a cancel-anytime month, that plan stops and the pass begins. It can't be bought during an active 12-month plan; it becomes available when that plan ends. We email you 14 and 3 days before the pass ends.

5.5 Discount codes. We may give discount codes to schools or student groups. Codes apply only to the plans and limits stated with them, can't be exchanged for cash, and may expire or run out.

5.6 Price changes. We may change prices for future purchases. A price change never affects a 12-month plan or pass you have already bought. For the cancel-anytime plan, we will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies, and you can cancel before then.

5.7 Refunds. Payments are non-refundable, including for partial months, unused time or unused study cards, except where required by law or where we choose to refund at our discretion. The free trial lets you try PearlHook before paying.

5.8 Failed payments. If a payment fails, we may pause access until it succeeds. For the 12-month plan, the remaining payments stay due. Please contact support@pearlhook.com before disputing a charge with your bank; we will try to fix any billing problem quickly.

6. Fair use

Every plan includes generous study-card use for one student's own studying. To keep the Service fast and fairly priced, each account has a monthly AI usage allowance, a 400-card limit during the free trial, and limits on how quickly cards can be made (to stop automated use). The panel tells you when you are close to a limit and when it resets. We may adjust these limits for future periods.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• share, sell, rent or sublicense your account or the Service
• copy, decompile, reverse engineer or modify the extension or the Service, or try to get our AI instructions or source code, except where the law allows despite this restriction
• use bots, scripts or automated tools to create cards, or use the Service to scrape or bulk-copy question-bank content
• use PearlHook in a way that breaks your question bank's terms, your school's honor code or exam rules (for example, during a proctored exam)
• publish, sell or redistribute study cards made from question-bank content
• interfere with the Service's security or other users

You are responsible for following your question bank's terms of use.

8. Your notes and study cards

• Your notes are yours. They stay on your computer and are never sent to AI or to our servers.
• Study cards are generated for your personal, non-commercial study. You may keep, export, print and review them for that purpose.
• Question-bank content belongs to its owners. PearlHook does not store question text; it is used once to create your card and then discarded (see the Privacy Policy).
• Study sessions are saved in your browser on your computer. Removing the extension deletes them, so use "Export all sessions" to keep a backup.

9. Our property and third-party services

PearlHook LLC owns the Service, including the extension, software, AI instructions, designs and the PEARLHOOK name and logo. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service under these Terms while your plan is active. Feedback you send us may be used freely to improve the Service.

The Service relies on third parties, including Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI), Cloudflare (hosting) and Resend (email), and works alongside question banks we don't control. We aren't responsible for their services or for changes to question-bank websites that temporarily affect PearlHook.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, PEARLHOOK DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT STUDY CARDS ARE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE, THAT THE SERVICE WILL WORK WITH EVERY QUESTION BANK OR WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, OR THAT USING IT WILL IMPROVE ANY EXAM SCORE.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, PEARLHOOK WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, PROFITS OR EXAM RESULTS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

12. Indemnity

You agree to cover PearlHook's reasonable losses and legal costs from claims caused by your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service, including use that breaks a question bank's terms.

13. Suspension and termination

You can stop using PearlHook at any time, subject to Section 5 (the 12-month plan's remaining payments still apply after the trial). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, shares access, abuses trials or limits, or puts the Service at risk. If we end the Service for everyone, we will refund the unused portion of any pass or 12-month plan you prepaid. Sections 7–12 and 14 survive termination.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, New York, except that either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court. Before filing any claim, please email support@pearlhook.com so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with its date and, for important changes, email you or show a notice in the extension at least 14 days before they apply. Changes don't alter the price or length of a 12-month plan or pass you already bought.
